We know that you enjoy attending events and activities run by local charities or community-based organisations. Many of these agencies also offer free, specialist advice and information to older people.

Age UK (national) and Age UK Oxfordshire

Age UK provides services for older people throughout the county. Whether you’re an older person or care for an older person as a friend or relative, they have a range of services offering practical help and support.

The charity produces really great guides for older people, including this one: Top tips for keeping warm and well in conjunction with the NHS.

On the subject of keeping warm, the UK Health Security Agency has also produced a guide to coping with cold weather and Covid19. Called Keep Warm, Keep Well, it’s here.

Age UK Oxfordshire is a local independent charity which helps enable every older person in Oxfordshire to live life to the full. They provide free local information, advice, and a wide range of support services, from exercise classes and digital support to telephone befriending and bereavement support – with much more in between.

Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society is a national care and research charity for people with dementia and their carers. They run a helpline for information, advice and signposting to support you or those you care for on 0300 222 1122.

Citizens Advice

For advice on pension credits, benefit entitlements, or even power of attorney, Citizens Advice is a good place to start. You can search for a local branch to visit on their website or see if there’s a local branch or phone service you can use here

Energy Saving Trust

The Energy Saving Trust on 0300 123 1234 gives advice on how to reduce your energy bills and make your home more energy-efficient. They’ll also give advice on grants and schemes that might be able to help with heating costs.

MIND

MIND  provides advice and support to anyone with a mental health problem. If you like a good read, want to join a drama group, need help with benefits or just want to be able to talk to someone, contact MIND on 01865 247788

Macmillan

If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, Macmillan Cancer Support (or phone 0800 169 65 65) can provide practical, medical and financial support.

Dementia Oxfordshire

Dementia Oxfordshire provides advice and support along your dementia journey. Whether you’re a carer, family, a friend, or living with dementia yourself, they can help you access the support you need.

They run a number of groups across the county which provide information, support and connection to those living with dementia, and their carers.
